Heads of State’s 2011/2012 campaign finished up in April at the Australian Ultimate Championships held in Newcastle.
For the first time in the club’s history, three Heads of State teams represented the club, with HoS Black already clinching the division two national title earlier in the month. HoS Burgundy had their sights set on achieving a similar goal at the top-flight of the competition, and proved to be a formidable opponent for the rest of the competition, dispatching their first opponent in Firestorm Ignition by a comfortable margin. Their ability to set positive structures early benefited them througout the day, later defeating Karma by a similar margin. However they were tested by I-Beam in the showcase game of the day. In damp conditions, the hosts put up some big plays to show they would not be as easy a task as HoS’ previous two opponents. In the end Heads Of State’s defensive line proved the difference, able to take some big points away from I-Beam and running out victors 15-12.
